Root canal treatment can help preserve a natural tooth that might otherwise need extraction.

What is it Preserving a Natural Tooth

Root canal treatment addresses infection or inflammation of the pulp, the tissue containing nerves and blood vessels. It can be a final option for retaining a natural tooth.

Decay can progress towards the pulp. Root canal treatment may be needed for deep decay, fractures or inflammation around the root. A small opening allows affected tissue to be removed before the space is cleaned and sealed.

The tooth is severely worn or eroded.
For a crown, extensive tooth preparation is required.

Process Root Canal Treatment Steps

The root canals are treated and a crown may be fitted to protect the tooth.

STEP 01

Pulp Removal

An opening is made in the tooth and damaged pulp tissue is removed.

STEP 02

Canal Disinfection

The space is carefully cleaned and disinfected.

STEP 03

Canal Filling

The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material.

STEP 04

Restoration

A crown protects the tooth and restores function where indicated.

After Root Canal Treatment

  • The number of visits and treatment duration depend on the tooth's condition.
  • Avoid biting your cheek or lip while the area is still numb.
  • Use pain relief as advised. Contact the clinic if significant pain persists.
  • A crown may be needed after root canal treatment to protect the tooth.
